Cancer prevalence in India is estimated to be around 2.5 million, with over 800,000 new cases occurring each year. The absolute number of cancer deaths in India is projected to increase because of population growth, urbanization, industrialization, lifestyle changes and increasing life expectancy. World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that the cancer death s in India is projected to increase to 700,000 by 2015. More than 70% of fatal cancers occur in productive ages of 30–69 years. Rates of cancer deaths were generally similar between rural and urban are the most educated and about twice as high in the least versus the most educated. A large proportion of cancer deaths in middle age (30–69 years) arise from tobacco-related cancers, particularly in the North - Eastern states of India.
